Former Missouri State Senate President Pro-Tem Tom Dempsey
Joins Gate Way Group as Partner and Director of Business Development

Dempsey to manage growing portfolio of multi-state and federal client accounts

St. Louis, MO (August 12, 2015) – The Gate Way Group (a division of Pelopidas, LLC) welcomes Tom Dempsey to the firm as a partner and Director of Business Development. This follows a long and respected career representing St. Charles County in the Missouri General Assembly.

Dempsey was first elected to the Missouri State Senate in 2007, where he quickly rose to the rank of Majority Floor Leader before being unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as the Senate President Pro-Tem in 2013. He previously served seven years in the Missouri House of Representatives (2001-2007), where he also held key leadership posts as Majority Leader and Chairman of the Job Creation and Economic Development Committee.

“Tom has a track record for negotiating high-profile public policy issues as a top leader in the House and Senate,” said David Jackson, Managing Partner for the Gate Way Group. “This, combined with his deep industry knowledge and strategic insight, makes Tom uniquely qualified to lead the Gate Way Group as a multi-state and federal government affairs firm.”

In his new role, Dempsey will oversee Gate Way Group’s transition into a multi-state and federal government affairs firm. While Dempsey will not be lobbying members of the Missouri General Assembly, his leadership on issues relating to health care, technology, and criminal justice reform will allow him to help shape the strategy and vision for advocacy campaigns in other states. “These are issues I was passionate about as a legislator because they have a dramatic impact on our budget and on the general welfare of our state,” said Dempsey.

Dempsey will also work with some of Gate Way Group’s existing corporate and association clients in the health care sector. “As we continue to grow as one of the nation’s largest imaging networks, serving over one million patients across 25 states each year, it is even more important for us to engage with policy leaders at the local, state, and federal level,” said Christopher Crancer, Director of State Legislative Policy for the Center for Diagnostic Imaging. Crancer previously served as Dempsey’s Legislative Director in the Senate.

“In all the years I worked with Senator Tom Dempsey on critical mental health issues, he was a thoughtful, untiring leader, effective in building bipartisan support for important mental initiatives in Missouri,” said Dr. Keith Schafer, the recently retired Director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

During his 18 years in public service, Dempsey won several awards for his bipartisan leadership. In 2013, he was recognized by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry and received the Chamber’s Man in the Arena Award. The Gate Way Group is pleased to add such an excellent leader to the team.
