Senate Hears Bill to Tighten Regulations on Navigators: The introduction of health insurance navigators through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has prompted strong defensive efforts from health insurance agents. Senator Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia) presented Senate Bill 498 on Tuesday in the Senate Small Business, Insurance, and Industries Committee, an act that requires insurance navigators to be bonded and creates a private cause of action against navigators if they release a patient’s private information. The Missouri Association of Insurance Agents testified in support of the bill, arguing that they are subject to various liability standards and they claim insurance navigators should have to practice under the same or tougher guidelines due to their limited training and experience.
